About
Hotel Vecchio Borgo
Hotel Vecchio Borgo sits on Via Quintino Sella, at the point where Palermo's historic centre meets the newer part of the city. The location puts you within a short walk of Piazza Castelnuovo and the Politeama theatre, while the old town's narrow streets and nightlife are just beyond. The hotel itself is an older building, well maintained, with soundproofed rooms and a lift.
The public areas are functional rather than flashy: a bar and lounge, a business corner, and a terrace. Room service and housekeeping are standard, and the staff are consistently described as kind and helpful. Parking is limited—three spaces at the door, with valet—so it's worth planning ahead if you drive.

In brief
What works, what to weigh
Strengths
4 reasons to book- Attentive, friendly staff — Guests repeatedly mention the kind and helpful team, who go out of their way to assist with local tips, trip planning, and even returning forgotten items.
- Central location near Politeama — On the edge of the old town, with easy access to Via Libertà and the historic centre. Piazza Castelnuovo is a short walk away, and the airport bus stop is close by.
- Good breakfast buffet — A generous spread with both savoury and sweet options, including eggs, bacon, sausages, Sicilian cheeses, pastries, and made-to-order coffee.
- Clean, comfortable rooms — Rooms are described as clean, well-furnished, and often spacious, with soundproofing and comfortable beds.
Worth weighing
4 to weigh- Street noise on weekends — The lively nightlife around the old town can bring street party noise, especially on weekends. Some guests recommend light sleepers pack earplugs.
- Very limited parking — Only three parking spaces at the door, with valet service. Availability is not guaranteed, so plan ahead if you're driving.
- Some rooms show wear — A few guests noted issues like holes in the paint or a non-cooling fridge, though these were minor.
- Old-fashioned bathrooms — While spacious, some bathrooms are dated, with older fixtures and a shower screen rather than a modern walk-in.

7.8Verified guest“The staff were extremely nice and the amenities were clean. The location is perfect for exploring the historic old town and the lively nightlife. Just be aware of street party noise, especially on weekends. We loved finding fresh breakfast options nearby!”
7.8Verified guest“A wonderful holiday stay overall. The standard queen room felt brand new with a good bathroom. The location next to Piazza Castelnuovo was marvellous, and it was just a 20-minute walk to the city centre.”
7.8Verified guest“Friendly staff. We stayed two nights at the start and one at the end of our trip; my children left a small bag behind and the staff kept it safe, returning it on our last night. They have three parking spaces at the door which is very convenient, and they even park the car for you. Breakfast is very good: a buffet with savoury options like scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, Sicilian cheese and cold cuts, plus sweet pastries including cannoli (though not every day), cakes and croissants. Good capsule coffee, a cozy space, and nice dishes. Our triple room was very spacious with comfortable beds. The bathroom was old-fashioned but roomy, with toiletries, a box of tissues, a hairdryer, soft white towels, and a shower screen. There was a minibar. The location is good, next to the Politeama, making it easy to come and go via the new part of Palermo, avoiding the centre which has heavy traffic and restricted zones that waste time. The hotel is old but well maintained, and the room matches the photos. 24-hour reception is a plus.”
7.8Verified guest“The staff were friendly and gave great local tips. The room was well-furnished and spotlessly clean. Breakfast had wonderful pastries that set me up for the day.”
7.8Verified guest“Nice hotel with excellent staff and a clean room. We asked for a balcony room and got one, though the balcony was only about 40 centimetres wide. Breakfasts were great and quite hot: omelette, sausages, roasted bacon, cold snacks, water, juices, and coffee made to order, brought to the table. One item in the heated tank looked unappealing, so I skipped it. We loved the stay; the price-quality ratio is high.”
7.8Verified guest“The room had nice furnishings and decor, and everything was comfortable. The only issue was the fridge didn't cool at all. Breakfast was quite good for Italy: brewed coffee, a warm omelette, and the usual range. I liked the location on the border of districts—one way leads to Via Libertà with shops and wine bars, the other to the historical centre, and towards the sea there are more working-class areas. That's Palermo for you; it's all neighbouring. The airport bus stop is close, which is convenient. The train station isn't near, but you can take a bus. I walked from the station, but that's not recommended in the heat. The staff were nice and kind.”
